As always, an incredibly interesting piece. But I don’t think you went quite far enough with your last paras about aggregates. Because the other thing that the charts comparing annual coal consumption with cumulative production of key commodities omit is the extraordinary amount of ore that needs to be dug out and refined in order to produce one tonne of a given metal - and then crushed, treated chemically, heated, etc. It’s mind-boggling!

I read Ed Conways book and approached the local environmental group Northern Arizona Climate Change Alliance in Northern Arizona. They have been kind and receptive to the message.

Our local cement plant is owned and run by the Salt River Pima community. The Pima are a Native American tribe. Their most famous member is Ira Hayes. Johnny Cash wrote a song about Ira Hayes. He lifted the American flag at Iwo Jima.

We feel we might be eligible for the new Biden infrastructure monies. I’m looking into it.

Our committee to upgrade the cement plant and make it ecologically sustainable doesn’t have an engineer.

Can someone volunteer to give us some technical advice?

What's the impact on the environment of all of the solar panels and wind turbines being built? Surely, if so much energy is extracted from the atmosphere the atmosphere will change as a result?
