Pre-ordered, as I very much enjoyed MW and Backstory is a wonderful bookshop.

You might look at a book called "Forging Global Fordism" as an example of a person/company that tried to be as close to 100 % self-sufficient as possible. https://www.foreignaffairs.com/reviews/capsule-review/forging-global-fordism-nazi-germany-soviet-russia-and-contest-over

Material World was one of our book club's favorite books of all time! I can't wait for this new book to come out here in the United States, hopefully by the time my turn to recommend books comes up again! It sounds like a fantastic story.

I am looking forward to buying this book. I hope that there is some coverage of the aspects of financial globalization that can cause as many snarls as the physical ones.

Timely. This will help us to navigate chokepoints like the Strait of Hormuz. Material World was a fascinating page turner, weaving history and modern materials supply chains. Brilliant read.

Pre ordered the Amazon Kindle version !

The Audible version will be read by you, Ed Conway, again like MW? I was really impressed by your way to create the audible version - enthusiasm leaking from it. Great work!

This article discusses an image that is eerily similar to the one on the cover of Trade World: https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s40152-025-00465-6

Excellent! Pre-ordered, but from a shop in Switzerland, not sure if this helps (with pre-order numbers) or not.

Your work is incredibly thorough, it really helps bring important insights to light that often get buried under the numbers. As someone doing research for the government in a country that’s often overlooked (and really shouldn’t be), I truly appreciate what you do.

Best regards,

from Panama

PS: Thanks for writing about us!

Now ordered. If it’s only half as good as The Material World it will be well worth it.
